Washington (August 25, 2021) — The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, the first university partner of the Foreign Affairs Information Technology (FAIT) Fellowship, will provide scholarships for FAIT Fellows enrolling in its eligible master’s programs.

The Heinz College scholarships will cover the difference between the FAIT Fellowship tuition assistance and the cost of tuition at Heinz College. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the Heinz scholarship for FAIT Fellows will be $30,900 per year.

With a commitment to diversity and inclusion, Heinz College partners with opportunities for minority students to help improve access to its graduate programs. The FAIT Fellowship program’s focus on diversity aligns with Heinz College’s values.

“Foreign policy faces complex challenges in our increasingly connected world. It’s vital that we nurture data-driven problem-solvers with a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives, and prepare them to have an impact in foreign affairs,” said Jackie Speedy, Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management at Heinz College. “It’s a priority for us to do all we can to ensure that talented and diverse students like FAIT Fellows have increased access to our master’s degree programs.”

The FAIT Fellowship program was launched by the U.S. Department of State with the goal of attracting top-notch tech talent to the Foreign Service that reflects the diversity of the United States. Funded by the State Department and administered by The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), the FAIT Fellowship encourages members of minority groups underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need to apply.

This unique two-year Fellowship program provides a path to an exciting career in the U.S. Foreign Service through academic funding, internships, professional development, and ultimately, an appointment as a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist. Fellows receive up to $37,500 annually in academic funding for the junior and senior years of undergraduate study or a two-year master’s program.  Fellows also receive stipends, travel expenses and housing for two summer internship experiences – one in Washington, D.C. and one at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate abroad.
